Who we are

The Rule of Law Education Centre is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting understanding of the rule of law in Australia.

Who we represent

The Rule of Law Education Centre, together with the Rule of Law Institute of Australia represent ordinary, law abiding Australians who wish to uphold the democratic freedoms and protections that the rule of law provides.

We are supported by over 3,300 members, 70% of which are teachers around Australia.

Our community includes educators, legal professionals, and individuals committed to strengthening civic understanding in Australia.

Our work is supported through the generous financial donations of many Australians and their families, law firms, grants and sponsors.

We also grateful for the many in-kind hours and volunteers that support our programs and provide real world experiences to students accessing our programs.

Why we were started

The Centre was established in 2015 during the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta to provide education regarding the Magna Carta and the underlying checks and balances and rule of law that protect us in Australia today.

These principles include equality before the law, an independent judiciary, separation of powers, presumption of innocence, freedom of speech and the model litigant obligations.

We draw on expertise from the legal profession, the judiciary, and the education sector to ensure our work is aligned with the principles of the rule of law, and remains balanced and non-partisan.
